Hi, I’m Michael Nichols — founder of Nichols Building Co., designer, builder, and lifelong tinkerer.

My journey started in my parents’ garage, where I spent countless hours building go-karts, RC planes, and anything else I could dream up with spare parts and imagination. Those early projects weren’t just hobbies—they were the beginning of a lifelong love for making things that move, spark curiosity, and bring joy.

As I got older, that curiosity evolved into hands-on woodworking and DIY projects around the house. I found purpose and pride in creating functional, beautiful pieces that my family could actually use and enjoy. Whether it was building furniture, fixing things up, or reimagining a space, I learned that the magic is in the details—and that good design always starts with intention.

Later, I pursued a degree in computer science, where I sharpened my problem-solving skills and deepened my understanding of systems and user experience. But even as I coded programs and studied algorithms, I never stopped building with my hands. Eventually, I realized that my unique path had led me to something more meaningful than any one discipline: the ability to design and build creative environments that spark imagination, connection, and exploration.

That’s what Nichols Building Co. is all about—combining craftsmanship, creativity, and care to build inspiring spaces for kids and families. Whether it’s a climbing wall in the living room, a lofted playhouse tucked into a bedroom, or a custom sound-and-light setup that turns playtime into an adventure, every project is a chance to help the next generation explore their own big ideas.
